Fire Chief Bertral Washington presided over the graduation of twelve recruits to probationary firefighters Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. at Ambassador Auditorium, 131 S. St. John Ave. Pasadena.

The graduating class consisted of: Adam Persitza, Joseph Berrett, Dustin Bury, Mark Cermak, William DePew, Michael Fiorenza, Brian King, Jonathan Maner, Calen Plouffe, Jordan Romero, Justin Soto and Tenoa Stevenson. Berrett, King and Plouffe all got married this past October.

This cadre of Firefighters were selected from a nationwide search. They had gone through a very extensive written, psychological, physical and background process in addition to several layers of oral boards culminating with Chief Officer one-on-one final interviews. During their 16 week academy they had endured hose and ladder drills, rigorous physical activities, academic and medical updates, hazardous materials and wildland studies and emergency vehicle operations courses.

“Firefighting is one of the most sought after and challenging careers. As we strive for continuous improvement, representing the world class City of Pasadena, it is important to carefully select, train and evaluate new staff. They have proven to be top candidates who will not only be leaders in the fire service, but also in the community we serve,” stated Chief Washington.
