Dear Editor:
For decades, Pasadena Heritage has built a solid reputation by protecting the historically valuable architectural assets of Pasadena. As a result, its positions regarding historical preservation and adaptive reuse typically go unchallenged.
Pasadena Heritage is allowing itself to be used as an instrument of Inter Continental Hotel Group to win public approval of the acquisition and alteration of the Julia Morgan designed YWCA building by Civic Center.
In the process they plan to add 87,342-square-feet of floor space, effectively doubling the height of the roof to 60 feet, as high as City Hall roof.
The project requires removal of 26 trees, and the city will cede about 30 feet of the public open land surrounding the proposed site as a gift to IHG.
Pasadena Heritage has not acted as a good steward for Pasadena.
