Applications Available for 2017 Young Legislators Program
Assemblymember Chris Holden is accepting applications for the 2017 Young Legislators Program.
This is a leadership program for high school students to learn about the legislative process and give young people access to elected leaders. The program also teaches them the relationship between local and state governments.
The students selected for the six-month, no-cost program will meet at sites in the 41st Assembly District for five sessions that will culminate with a two-day session in Northern California.
Last year, the final session involved a tour of the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park. It included a discussion with members of Facebook’s government affairs team. The group also visited Sacramento and attended a State Education Committee hearing.
Of the program, Holden said, “I’m thrilled to launch the second annual Young Legislators Program for the 41st Assembly District. We’ve put together a program that will have a lasting impact on participating students and maybe even inspire them to run for office one day.”
This year the program is open to high school seniors who live in the 41st Assembly District. Applications are due by Oct. 20. Those who wish to participate must commit to monthly Saturday meetings, starting in January of next year.
