Monrovia Library Events
As always, the Monrovia Public Library continues to host a wide variety of events/programs, ranging from critical community resources, to family-friendly nights of fun and entertainment.
Listed below is a sampling of upcoming happenings at the Monrovia Public Library:
– No More Sugar Blues: tonight at the Monrovia Library, a program on sugar consumption will be presented, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Andrea Arellano, certified holistic health coach, will discuss the “sugar blues!” If you have any questions, call the library at (626) 256-8274. This event is free.
– A Veterans Resource Center is coming – volunteers needed: As a result of a grant awarded to the library, a Veterans Resource Center will soon be open. Volunteers are needed to assist with this project. Those interested should get in touch with Mabel Cross, who can be reached via email at mcross@ci.monrovia.ca.us or by phone at (626) 256-8294. The library will provide training for all interested volunteers and we have a variety of volunteer positions available, including veterans benefits coach, oral history interviewer, and community outreach specialist.
– Monday Movie Nights: family movies are shown monthly at 6 p.m. in the library community room. Check the library calendar for upcoming movie listings at: www.libraryinsight.net/calendar.asp?jx=cm.
– Coding For Kids: is your little one curious about how computers work? Sign-ups are now available for the free children’s class (intended for kids 7 to 10 years old) to learn a programming language to code and build games. Using coding websites, like Scratch, children will learn basic coding concepts through guided play. Register online at www.cityofmonrovia.org/library. The class will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the library story-time room.
– Fort Night: this Friday night the library is offering families the chance to work together to design and build a “fort” and then watch a movie from it. All are encouraged to bring pillows, blankets, and their favorite stuff friend to cuddle up, enjoy some snacks, and watch a movie. Fort building will begin at 6 p.m. in the library community room, with the movie starting at 7 p.m. Snacks will be provided.
– Friday Mystery Bags: on the first and third Fridays of each month, the library offers an opportunity for a weekend of family fun. To participate, visit the big red desk in youth services for a mysterious, family-friendly weekend activity. Stop in, grab a bag, and take it home to open, explore, create, and discover. The bags are available the first and third Fridays of each month from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., while supplies last! But please note … some experiments will require parental supervision. Mark your calendars, as the bags will be available on Sept. 23, Oct. 7 and 21, and Nov. 4th and 18.
