Legendary Freda Payne Plays The Kingston in Pasadena Sept. 25

Freda Payne is an American Soul/R&B/Jazz singer and actress best known for her million selling 1970 hit single, “Band of Gold.” In 1971 she had a second gold record which was the Vietnam War protest song, “Bring the Boys Home.” As an actress, Ms. Payne appeared in musicals and film, as well as the host of her own TV talk show, Today’s Black Woman. She has made special guest appearances on different television shows including American Idol in which she sang her hit song “Band of Gold.” In 1986, she recorded a remake of her hit “Band of Gold” with Belinda Carlisle. In February 2010, Payne joined Kanye West, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Barbara Streisand and many more on the We Are The World for Haiti Relief. She also continued her acting career appearing in the films Private Obsession, Ragdoll, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and Fire & Ice (made-for-TV). Freda is the older sister of former Supreme Scherrie Payne. (Scherrie performs in the Holiday Celebration Club’s We Care Community Choir, “I Need You to Survive,” for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The Holiday Celebration Club is presenting its annual “Here’s to Life” fundraiser to raise funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on September 25, 2016 from NOON – 7 pm. The event will be an “artistic musical day of inspiration, hope and awareness for all ages!” Co Hosts, Bill A. Jones (“Rod Remington” of hit TV series Glee) & Martha Taylor LaCroix, HCC Founder will get this musical “feast,” started.

Actress, Sally Kellerman (Major Margaret “Hot Lips” O’Houlihan in Robert Altman’s film MASH) will be rendering her support and Artie Butler, composer of, “Here’s to Life,” the song that inspired the name for this event (Co-written by the late, Phyliss Molinary); will perform his legendary masterpiece! Popular beloved artists will be enjoyed throughout the day! Live music, dancing, contests and food in three different rooms of entertainment will include big bands, a workshop for aspiring backup singers taught by backup pros to music legends like Stevie Wonder and Bette Midler; a karaoke/open mic contest hosted by Keri Ke
