Barks and Books (Sept. 3 @ 11 a.m., Arcadia Public Library, 20 W. Duarte Road). Barks and Books is Pasadena Humane Society’s reading enrichment program for children ages 5 to 12

Sept. 1

Vegetarian Cuisine (Sept. 1 @ 7 p.m., Saute Culinary Academy, 150 E. Colorado Blvd.). This class focuses exclusively on techniques and principles for cooking vegetarian. We will guide students through purchase, storage, and preparation of seasonal vegetables as well as introduce appropriate herb and vegetable combinations. Students will learn classic cooking techniques and how to work with substitutions so that they become less reliant on recipes and more reliant on their own skill base. 626 Night Market (Sept. 2 to 4 @ 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Santa Anita Park, 285 W. Huntington Drive). Southern California’s original and largest Asian-themed night market is celebrating five years of food and fun in 2016 with an event that’s even bigger than year’s past. The 626 Night Market will take over Santa Anita Park with its food vendors offering up unique cuisine and merchandise, along with art, dancing, and other activities for all ages. Parking is free. Admission to the event is $3 for adults and free for children under 6 years old.

Senior Fitness: Sweating to the Oldies (Sept. 2 @ 9:45 a.m., Live Oak Park, 10144 Bogue St.). Burn calories and strengthen our heart while singing along to your favorite hits of the ‘50s and ‘60s. On the first Saturday of each month, join the Teen History Docents and the Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society at the Richardson House and Lizzie’s Trail Inn Museums. Learn about Sierra Madre History, and take a short trip into the past.

Labor Day Free BBQ Event (Sept. 5 @ 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Holy Assembly Church of God in Christ, 55 E. Villa St.).
