Daylight Limited, LLC, the entity developers that are restoring Monrovia’s Historic Santa Fe Depot have submitted their building plans to the city for review. This is a major step in the actual work of starting on the restoration.

The depot is the central feature of Monrovia’s Station Square, and, at the moment, is still in dismal condition. Neglected for many years after its transfer from Santa Fe to Metro, the building was home of vagrants and a target for thieves and vandals. The city hopes that with its restoration, it will attract a restaurant or café that will once again make it an attraction rather than an attractive nuisance.

According to Oliver Chi’s city manager’s report this week, the city anticipates that construction on the rehabilitation should begin in mid to late September of this year. The report also said that the city also believes that it should take between four and six months to complete the initial work that will make the depot attractive to a tenant.

Chi’s report also wrote that the city and Daylight Limited (a part of Samuelson & Fetter) are now “intensifying our efforts to identify and attract a restaurant/café operator for the location.”
