As the final days of summer come to a close, students scramble to finish their summer assignments and to purchase their school supplies. Next Wednesday, Aug. 17, Arcadia High School students will return to school and, one day later, all Arcadia elementary schools and middle schools will start.

It is a well-anticipated day for many parents, as they send their student to school. For many parents, they take photos and post them on their social media page. Arcadia Unified School District recently started the social media campaign #ArcadiaFirstDay – the idea is to help engage the community and to show the energy of the students for the first day of school.

The genius behind the campaign? Ryan Foran, the public information officer. He says that “social media campaigns are a great way to engage with our community and AUSD families.”

Foran also pointed out that last year the Reyes family used the hashtag, showing all four siblings in each class at Arcadia High School and was featured on ABC7.

Arcadia Unified began using the hashtag two years ago, however, it picked up momentum last year and they are expecting a lot more tweets this year.

Not only do these photos show the excitement of the students, they also provide long-lasting memories that can easily be accessed in the future.

If people are not on social media, they can email their pictures to news@ausd.net and the photos will be posted in the Arcadia Unified School District Facebook album with all the other pictures from social media.
