On Tuesday, Aug. 9, Foothill Unity Center Inc. will present their “18th Annual Back to School Distribution” at Santa Anita Park Race Track in Arcadia.
Through the generosity of people like yourselves, more than 1,000 low-income K-12 children from our local community will receive clothing and supplies they need to start the school year off right. Through your generosity, these children will not have to face that anxiety-ridden first day of school, feeling he or she is not dressed like the other children, or lack the materials required for their schoolwork.
A welcoming ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. to hear a few words of support from our Executive Director Betty R. McWilliams, elected officials, dignitaries, major sponsors, and Circle of Friends donors, followed immediately by guided tours of the event provided by the staff and/or directors.
The tour will provide you with an opportunity to see how the community comes together for this very special event. You will be able to see the sparkle in the children’s eyes as they choose their new backpack, new crisp clothing, in addition to socks, underwear, shoe cards, grade-appropriate school supplies, books, haircuts, and manicures. Additionally they will receive needed health screenings including vision, dental, hearing, and, new to this year’s event, a college area promoting higher education.
The ceremony will be held at the beautifully renovated Chandelier Room at the Historic Santa Anita Park Race Track located at 285 W. Huntington Drive, in the clubhouse area. Enter at Gate 5 where Huntington Drive and Colorado Street meet on the east side of the facility. Attendees of the ceremony will check in at the volunteer registration desk as you enter the clubhouse area.
