The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close all lanes of the westbound Foothill Freeway (I-210) between Lake Avenue and Mountain Street for two 55-hour weekend closures as part of a pavement rehabilitation project.

The eastbound Ventura Freeway (SR-134) connector to westbound I-210 will also be closed. The westbound I-210 Marengo Avenue and Mountain Street off-ramps and Walnut Street on-ramp will need to be closed throughout the weekend closures as well. The first closure will begin Friday, July 15 at 10 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to plan ahead, use alternate routes, avoid the area or use public transit. Additionally, motorists can check traffic conditions before they leave by calling 511 or visiting the Caltrans Quickmap at quickmap.dot.ca.gov.

The 55-hour full weekend closures will take place:

– Friday, July 15 at 10 p.m. through Monday, July 18 at 5 a.m.

– Friday, July 29 at 10 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 1 at 5 a.m.

The Foothill Freeway is a major thoroughfare, serving commuters between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. As a result of heavy use, the road has experienced extensive wear.

The closures are part of a $148.5 million pavement rehabilitation project in both directions of I-210 in the cities of Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge, and Pasadena. Once the project is completed in 2018 the new surface will provide a smoother, safer drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance, and minimize the need for further lane closures. Flatiron West Inc. is the contractor on this project. Motorists are advised to “Be Work Zone Alert.”
