The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) is pleased to announce the selection of Lindsay Lewis as principal of Sierra Madre Elementary School.

“We are fortunate to have strong leaders who are experienced and can transition into principal roles, as exemplified by newly appointed Sierra Madre Elementary School Principal Lindsay Lewis,” said Superintendent Brian McDonald. “She brings a strong vision, a proven track record, and a collaborative approach to creating opportunities for all children to become authentic learners.”

Lewis is already an integral part of the Sierra Madre Elementary community, having served as the school’s curriculum resource teacher since 2011. She worked closely with former Principal Esther Salinas, faculty, and the community in transitioning instruction to the new state learning standards. During her time of service, Sierra Madre was named a California Gold Ribbon School and earned the California Exemplary Arts Education Award in 2016.

“I am so excited to serve and support the Sierra Madre Elementary School community as we embark on this new journey!” said Lewis. “Together, we will continue to nurture learners as they grow into brilliant, creative, strong and true-hearted leaders within a safe and supportive community. I am proud to carry on that ‘gold ribbon’ spirit alongside this exemplary staff, families, and community to continue Sierra Madre School’s legacy of excellence.”

In addition to being a resource teacher, Lewis has taught every grade level from kindergarten through eighth grades. She began her educational career in San Diego Unified School District as a first grade teacher. Lewis also taught in Lemon Grove, Poway, and El Cajon Unified School Districts, before joining PUSD in 2001.

A product of PUSD schools, Lewis attended Burbank Elementary School and graduated from John Muir High School.

She received a bachelor’s with a double major in psychology and teacher education from the University of California, San Diego; a teaching credential from San Diego State University; a master’s in counseling psychology from National University; and holds an administrative preliminary credential.

Lewis was selected after a competitive process that included input provided by Sierra Madre Elementary stakeholders, students, employees, and parents that informed the development of the new principal profile.

Lewis’ appointment was effective July 1, 2016. Former principal Dr. Esther C. Salinas has been selected as the district Ombuds Officer.
