LA County Initiative to Help Small Businesses Succeed During Minimum Wage Increases
The County of Los Angeles Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) will hold a resource fair on Thursday, June 30, at East Los Angeles College. The event will introduce businesses to departments and agencies involved in the Small Business Initiative; a five-year county-wide initiative (through 2021), designed to help small businesses succeed and grow during the upcoming minimum wage increases.
The Small Business Initiative includes: low-interest loans through the Community Development Commission; workplace development and layoff aversion assistance through the Department of Community and Senior Services; assistance in applying for county procurement contracts through DCBA; and several other programs for small business owners in LA County.
“Businesses and employees thrive when we have a strong and vibrant economy,” said DCBA Director Brian J. Stiger, “The Small Business Initiative helps small businesses transition through the new minimum wage increases.”
Starting July 1, 2016 the minimum wage in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County will be $10.50 an hour for businesses with 26 or more employees. Those who work at least two hours in a one-week period in any unincorporated area of the county are entitled to the new wage. Smaller businesses with 25 or fewer employees will pay $10.50 an hour starting July 1, 2017. DCBA will enforce the new minimum wage in unincorporated areas of LA County.
