‘Creating a Water-Wise and California-Friendly Garden’

The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (Upper District) and the City of Covina are inviting residents to attend an informational landscaping class hosted by Michael Touhey, Upper District’s board secretary/treasurer. The free workshop will provide residents with information regarding the California drought, local water supplies, and how changes to their outdoor landscaping can significantly reduce their monthly water usage.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, June 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Covina City Hall Council Chambers (125 E. College St.).

Residents will receive step-by-step information on ways in which they can convert their outdoor landscapes to ones that better tolerate drought conditions and use water more efficiently.

The workshop will highlight topics such as drip irrigation systems and weather-based controllers; drought-tolerant and California native plant varieties; and other ways to reduce outdoor water use.

Upper District will also provide a status update of our local water supply conditions and conservation programs available to residents and businesses.

All residents in attendance will have the opportunity to enter a free raffle for a residential landscape consultation by Eco Tech Services Inc., as well as four rain barrels. Each attendee will also receive a free drought-tolerant plant to take home.
