Brenda Trainor of Wonder Dog Ranch advises that many people do not adequately prepare their pets for possible evacuation in emergencies. She reports that Ernie, CBO (Chief Barking Officer) of the Ranch, is concerned because many of the animals seeking shelter at the ranch in the recent fire emergencies did not come in with current shot records.
Trainor said that Ernie was concerned about the health of all the animals seeking shelter.
Trainor suggests that when residents think about preparing to evacuate, they give equal consideration to helping their pets prepare as well. She suggests keeping a current “shot record” for your pet and a complete list of their regular medications. If you need to evacuate your pet, bring that shot record and medications the evacuation site.
It should be noted that most evacuation centers do not allow pets. Wonder Dog Ranch has stepped forward to fill the need and provide a safe haven for pets in emergency situations.
