Carmen Martinez is a proud mother of three, a hard-working realtor, and an active Monrovia resident who assists various groups in non-profit activities.

Last November, Martinez had a heart operation to fix an unknown childhood heart ailment. A few weeks ago, she had another unexpected operation and is now in the process of recovery.

To show support, her friends are having a silent auction and pasta supper, spear-headed by community activist (and Monrovia’s 2016 Woman of Distinction) Janie Duncan.

Duncan, who is also head chef for Foothill Kitchen Inc., will be making her award-winning Montana Minestrone soup, tossed salad, dessert, and all the pasta one can eat, as well as appetizers and drinks, all for only $10.

There will be entertainment followed, by the silent auction.

Among the various auction items available, is one signed copy of local author Anthony Morelli’s latest book “Coming out of the Desert;” a hand-crafted piece of jewelry, specially designed for the event by Jill Catherine; and an original art piece by Isa Martinez, Carmen’s oldest child, who is an artist and student at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.

Event will take place on Friday, June 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at United Methodist Church (140 E. Palm Ave.).

Tickets are available at the door or Tuesdays and Thursdays at the church’s thrift store. For more information, call (626) 303-2783.
