Back to School Backpack and School Supply Drive

School is out and summer is upon us. You might be taking a moment to catch your breath, but at Friends In Deed, we are already thinking ahead to the fall and our annual Back-To-School Backpack & School Supply Drive.
This is an important event for us and we always look forward to it. Many of our families cannot afford the expenses that a new school year brings and it can be very stressful. Expenses like new clothes and shoes for their ever-growing children, fees for school programs and projects, and a backpack with the essential items to fill it. We count it a privilege to help with this stressful time by providing backpacks, already filled with school supplies to children in our Food Pantry community.
We also look forward to helping kids really enjoy that first day of school. Kids always compare themselves to other kids and our goal is for them to feel confident that they at least have the school supplies they need for a successful and enjoyable new school year.
Of course, we do not make this happen all by ourselves. Every year, lots of folks have jumped on the band wagon to make the Back-to-School Backpack & School Supply Drive one of which we can be proud.
Last year, we gave out an amazing 250 backpacks full of supplies to our Food Pantry’s school-aged children. This year we hope to give away at least that many and we hope that you will join us in this effort!
If you would like to join this event, here are some things to consider:
- Backpacks should be sturdy enough to handle the rigors of a student’s day and the crazy amount of books they heft around, especially for our high school students.
- Please avoid the colors red and blue.
Please deliver empty backpacks and any school supplies to Friends In Deed (444 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena), by Wednesday, July 20. We will fill them and distribute them the following week on Tuesday, July 26, and Wednesday, July 27.
