On Wednesday, June 8, at about 12:49 p.m., the police department received a report of a robbery and shots fired at Chan’s Market in the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue.

Victims followed the suspect, who fled on foot, and directed police officers to the area where they last saw him. The suspect was apprehended in the 200 block of MacDonald Street, without incident.

The suspect, Justin Bryson (black male, 21, Pasadena resident), entered the store with a bandana covering his face and armed with a handgun. The suspect approached Victim #1 and demanded cash from the register.

Victim #1 walked away from the register area and began throwing items at the suspect. The suspect fired a single shot from his handgun in the direction of the victim.

As the suspect exited the store, he pointed his handgun at Victim #2. The suspect fled on foot northbound on Lincoln Avenue.

Victim #1 entered his vehicle and pursued the suspect. Victims #3, #4, and #5 also pursued the suspect in their vehicle behind Victim #1.

During the victims’ pursuit of the suspect in their vehicles, the suspect turned around at one point, and possibly fired at least one gunshot at the victims. The suspect was last seen in the vicinity of MacDonald Street between Mentone Avenue and Glen Avenue.

A perimeter containment was established. Patrol officers, officers from the Special Enforcement Section, and the Police Helicopter responded to search for the suspect.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bloodhound Units were also deployed during the search.

The suspect was located in the 200 block of MacDonald Street where he voluntarily surrendered to officers.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the location and evidence was recovered. The suspect was arrested for attempted murder and booked at the city jail.
