New York fashion designer, Rachel Comey has decided to make her mark here in the west coast by opening an earthy and artfully designed store on Melrose Ave., within the fashion hub of West Hollywood. Only the second shop for the long time cult favorite, Comey opened her first location in 2014 on Crosby st. in Manhattan.
This unexpected change in scenery came as a pleasant surprise to her cult following when she announced her plans to open her Melrose location in February 2016, but the designer has been continuously proving that her growth and the evolution of her brand knows no bounds. Before 2014 the brand functioned solely in wholesale distribution and after a successful transition, it only makes sense that they would move to LA where all of their denim is produced.
Bringing in Los Angeles based architect Linda Taalman, Brooklyn-based architect Elizabeth Roberts and San Francisco based interior designer Charles de Lisle, the newest location mimics the feel and aesthetic of her east coast store while maintaining an effortlessly chic western style. The space is a masterpiece itself, featuring exposed beams, poured concrete walls, terracotta-hued floors and a thoughtfully placed hand-felted mural – Comey’s intricate attention to detail comes to life in its atmosphere.
The shop will carry the Rachel Comey collection in its entirety, so LA natives will now be able to indulge in classic silhouettes and vintage prints without having to wait 5-7 days for shipping. Oh Happy Day!
The shop is located at 8432 Melrose Place.
