Museums of the Arroyo Day (May 15 @ 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., multiple locations). Join us for the 27th anniversary of Museums of the Arroyo Day, where six museums located in Los Angeles and Pasadena will open their doors, free of charge. Celebrating a diverse mix of art, architecture, and history of the Arroyo Seco area, MOTA Day features six unique history-based museums that preserve and perpetuate early Los Angeles life. MOTA museum members include The Autry’s Historic Southwest Museum (Mount Washington Campus), the Gamble House, Heritage Square Museum, the Los Angeles Police Museum, the Lummis Home and Garden, and the Pasadena Museum of History. The Secret Lives of Galaxies (May 16 @ 7:30 p.m., Carnegie Observatories, 813 Santa Barbara St.). The Hubble sequence of galaxies resembles a simple classification chart, yet underneath the neatly aligned shapes and colors lie complex and violent histories. Through radio, infrared, UV, and optical astronomy, today we can deduce these histories and the future. By exploring how each piece of the puzzle fits with every other piece, we can understand the universe and fundamental questions of how we got here.

One Act Festival (May 18 @ 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Arcadia Performing Arts Center, 188 Campus Drive). Beginning Theatre will perform on the “Big Stage” at the Arcadia High School Performing Arts Center. The Beginning cast members will perform in a series of one-act plays that showcase their artistic skills while taking you on an emotional journey.
