Arcadia Election Victors’ Statements
We asked the two successful candidates in the Arcadia Municipal Election to take a moment and let us know what they feel about the election and the resulting appointment to council.

“It’s a privilege and honor to win a seat on City Council.
This could not have happened without the support, encouragement, time and sacrifice of so many neighbors. It is quite an undertaking to run against several incumbents who have served our community for years and all who were well respected and appreciated for their years of service.
I want to thank my husband Chris Seymour, who convinced me to run and supported me through the entire process. I want to thank my kids for allowing me to miss softball games, play dates, Boy Scouts and school activities while I campaigned. I want to thank City Councilman Mickey Segal and Mayor Gary Kovacic for their sage advice. I want to thank former mayors George Fasching and Gail Marshall for their endorsements, counsel and guidance. I want to thank former mayor Mary Young for her words of wisdom and support. I want to thank Julie Lim and Laurie Thompson for rallying the Village, Donna Perez and Jean Voznick for bringing out the Oaks, and to all my Highlands neighbors, thank you for never giving up and believing in me. To Tom McKernan, thank you for setting me up for success. And finally to my parents – thank you for your love and support.
I look forward to working with Councilmen Tom Beck, Sho Tay, Roger Chandler and Peter Amundson. – April Verlato”

I took the commitment to run a clean campaign seriously. I think voters saw me as a reasonable rational and caring candidate. An independent person who only wants what is best for his hometown. I have felt that for too long residential privacy and quality of life was overshadowed by over sized homes. Arcadian’s spoke with their ballots in agreement.
Going forward “Mansionization’ should no longer control the Council agenda. I think the Council wants to move forward in a productive manner without the drama that has overshadowed these last two years. I think this new council will be receptive and respectful to the needs and concerns of Arcadian’s. Measure A, even though it did not pass, will make the Council more conscious of the need to use the taxpayers money wisely. The new council will be even more aware than the prior one of the need to address the increase in crime in Arcadia.
