A Pasadena gang member was sentenced April 15 for the death of two people, including an 11-year-old boy, killed when his vehicle crashed against theirs during a police pursuit on Christmas 2012, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Darrell Lee Williams, 25, received 30 years to life in state prison in case GA088486. Deputy District Attorney Adan Montalban of the Hardcore Gang Division in Pasadena said Williams was found guilty on Nov. 10, 2015, of two counts of voluntary manslaughter and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, an automobile. Jurors also found true allegations that Williams inflicted great bodily injury.
Co-defendant Brittany Michelle Washington, 24, pleaded no contest on Jan. 13, 2014, to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon with one prior. She was sentenced to two years in state prison.
On Dec. 25, 2012, Williams was driving a silver Dodge Durango with Washington in the front passenger seat when police attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation, according to court testimony. Williams refused to stop because he had a firearm in the SUV while on parole and a high speed chase began, the prosecutor said.
The pursuit ended shortly when the defendant’s Durango slammed into a van near the Foothill freeway and Marengo Avenue. Tracey Ongtan, 25, and Kendrick Ng, 11, were passengers in the van and were killed on impact, the prosecutor added. Three others in the van were seriously injured. The case was investigated by the Pasadena Police Department.
