
An unattended suspicious item was spotted at Station Square this past Monday morning, March 28, in Monrovia. Metro Gold Line trains did not stop at Monrovia for the time being during the investigation.
The LASD Bomb squad was scene and the immediate area was evacuated as a precaution.
The unattended item found at the Monrovia Gold Line Station led to street closures and trains bypassing the station Monday morning.
Sheriff’s Transit Policing Division said a deputy saw an unattended object at the station platform at 8:32 a.m. The sheriff’s bomb squad checked and deemed it safe.
While this incident was unfounded, it shows the heightened state of alert our first responders are facing.
In the wake of the terrorist attacks, most recently in Brussels and the advent of a new light rail system running through 5 new stations in our area, sheriff’s deputies and local police are hyper-vigilant regarding anything suspicious.
This latest incident involved what allegedly looked like a “rice cooker” which has been used in previous terrorist attacks.
