Marines Battle Color Detachment Performs at Arcadia High School’s Salter Stadium

The Marines Battle Color Detachment proudly performed at Arcadia High School. The Ceremonial Unit played to hundreds of Arcadia High School students on March 8 at Salter Stadium.
The Battle Color Detachment (BCD) comprises the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, The Silent Drill Platoon, and the Marine Corps Color Guard. Traditionally, the Battle Color Detachment performs Ceremonial Maneuver and showcases the pride and precision of the Marines. The Marines are assigned to Marine Barracks in Washington D.C. and is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps. The post was founded in 1801 by President Thomas Jefferson and Lt. Col. William Ward Burrows, the third commandant of the Marine Corps.

Every year the Detachment performs at high schools and colleges around the nation. Its mission is to provide music and ceremony for the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Commanding Officer. For Arcadia High School, the Band featured the ‘Music in Motion’ drill by the Drum & Bugle Corps, the Silent Drill by the Drill team and a presentation of National Colors.
Mr. Sherrill, the Arcadia High School Band director, said that the “music students will have a great opportunity to see and to hear some of the finest marching musicians in the country. The musicality, professionalism, and discipline that the Marines will display during their performance will serve to inspire all our students in their musical activities”. Mr. Sherrill also was very honored for Arcadia High School to host this performance.
Many students were impressed with the performance and found it as an inspiring tradition.
“It was an extraordinary event for me as it showcased what true American pride stands for, ” stated Chris Chen, a senior musician at Arcadia High School.
Eric Huang, a freshman who just joined Arcadia High School’s marching band said that “the Marine Band’s performance was amazing” and the “music was great!”
The detachment will perform across Southern California in the next couple of weeks, including at Camp Pendleton, the School of Infantry West.
