A moist westerly flow will bring a chance of showers at times Friday into Saturday in advance of a pacific storm…mainly from Santa Barbara County northward. A more well-defined cold front Will likely bring rain to much of southwest California Saturday Night into Sunday morning…with the heaviest rainfall expected across the central coast, according to National Weather Service.

A second wave of steady rain is likely Sunday night. From Saturday night through Sunday night…rain
could be moderate to heavy at times…bringing the potential for urban roadway flooding as well as mud and debris flows in recent burn areas. Additional showers will be likely on Monday. While there is still some uncertainty in the rainfall timing and amounts…much of southwest California could receive between one and two inches of rain through Monday.

Snow levels will start out above 7000 feet ahead of the cold front…but are expected to lower to around 5000 feet by Sunday Night…and possibly as low as 4000 feet on Monday across north facing slopes. If the lower snow levels materialize…there could be potential snow impacts across interstate 5 near the grapevine on Monday. Strong southwest winds may precede the cold front Saturday night into Sunday morning…especially across the mountains and antelope valley…which could cause downed trees and
branches.

An extended period of high surf is expected across west facing beaches Thursday night through Tuesday…with the potential for very large damaging surf and coastal flooding by Monday. Please
refer to the latest coastal hazard message (laxcfwlox) for details.

An additional storm could impact southwest California late next week. Residents of southwest California…especially those near recent burn areas…are urged to stay tuned to the latest national weather service forecasts and statements.
