‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ Is Coming to Arcadia!
The award winning theatre students of Arcadia High School (AHS) will be presenting the fun musical comedy, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” March 17 to 19, at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center. Set in New York City during the roaring ‘20s, feisty, young Millie Dilmount moves from Kansas to take on the Big Apple. Millie, played by AHS senior, Meghan Pender, bobs her hair and becomes a “Modern” as she plans to find a job and marry a wealthy employer. Pender is joined by a talented cast of 50 other students all decked out in period costumes to make this a spectacular show! This accomplished cast, once again, recently brought home a First Place Sweepstakes Trophy in competition against 80 other high schools. They are sure to bring the same enthusiasm and dynamic performances to this production chock full of singing, dancing, and flappers, of course!
The success of these talented theatre students comes from their dedication and hard work, but also from the excellent direction and mentoring they receive from their directors and industry professionals.
Their teacher, Steven Volpe, has directed over 20 theatrical productions at AHS, as well as many award winning scenes for theater competitions. He strives to provide his students with a truly professional experience by surrounding them with experts working in the theatre industry. He is joined in this endeavor by AHS’ Technical Director Keith DeLuca and Music Director Dr. Stephen Pu.
For “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” Volpe has engaged professional Broadway actress and dancer Jean Michelle Sayeg to choreograph the show and, on top of that, to teach the students tap dancing. The students have been learning tap dancing from Sayeg since last August in preparation for this performance. Just some of Sayeg’s many professional performances include Broadway’s national tour of “Cats and Camelot,” the San Francisco’s SMUIN Ballet, and L.A. Opera’s “The Ghosts of Versailles.” The students have delighted in learning tap dance from such an accomplished and inspiring professional … and you will be delighted by the tap dancing numbers they perform.
You will not want to miss this high energy, fun musical being performed right here in our community at the beautiful Arcadia Performing Arts Center.
