When the Chinese American Museum (CAM) presents the 15th annual Los Angeles Lantern Festival on Saturday, March 5, a 5,000-year old tradition will be revived.

Open to the public free of charge and held at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument in downtown L.A., the Lantern Festival offers a wide range of hands-on arts and crafts, continuous live entertainment, lion dancers, martial artists, acrobats, magicians, dancers, singers, and the rarely seen ancient art form, Shadow Puppets.

Refreshments will be available for purchase from some of L.A.’s most popular food trucks.

Festival attendees have the opportunity to experience the museum’s newest exhibition, Tales of a Distant Past. The exhibit is also free of charge.

Festivities begin at 12 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. when the lighted silver dragon, a Chinese symbol of auspicious power, winds its way around the Plaza at El Pueblo.

Museum address is 425 N. Los Angeles St. For additional details, visit www.camla.org/LALanternFestival.
