Dorothy’s Place: Precious Memories
By Dorothy Denne
My sister called me yesterday. We are both widows now, she for 13 years, I for six months. We are no longer young. To make things easier for those we will eventually leave behind, we are beginning to downsize our belongings.
In going through some of her stuff, she found an old magazine. The main feature of that edition was an article about Virginia City, Nev. It sparked memories for her about a visit that she and her husband had made to me and my husband.
While they were here we took a trip to Lake Tahoe, Reno, Virginia City, and a wonderful trip to the Ponderosa of the TV show “Bonanza” fame.
She and I took a lengthy trip down memory lane together … We cried a bit, but laughed a lot. By the time we hung up I was not sure if I wanted to remember all those things.
I decided to watch some TV. There was nothing that appealed to me so I decided to watch a DVD that my heart-son had loaned me. It was the story of Glen Campbell’s final tour and his travels into the depths of Alzheimer’s.
My memories, bad and good, suddenly became so, so precious.
