A 32-year-old woman was sentenced on Feb. 1, 2016 to life in state prison without the possibility of parole for fatally stabbing her three young daughters in 2014, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
On Nov. 30, 2015, defendant Carol Ann Coronado was found guilty in a bench trial of three counts of first-degree murder in case BA425234.
Additionally, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ricardo R. Ocampo found true the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, as well as the special allegation that Coronado personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, in the commission of the crime.
Following a sanity trial, the same judge found that Coronado was sane at the time of the fatal attack.
Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear of the Victim Impact Program prosecuted the case.
On May 20, 2014, Coronado killed her three daughters, two-year-old Sophia, 16-month-old Yazmine, and 2-month-old Xenia with a kitchen knife before trying to harm herself, according to the prosecutor.
The children’s bodies were discovered inside the family’s residence soon after the assault.
The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
