Arcadia Innovation Summit Expected to Double

After a successful debut in which more than 300 educators from all over Southern California attended, the Arcadia Innovation Summit will return this summer. The 2nd Annual Arcadia Innovation Summit will take place on July 8, 2016. Registration opens Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at 10 a.m. In maintaining with its mission, the Arcadia Innovation Summit will be free of charge. Similar professional development opportunities and conferences would cost a minimum of $200.
George Couros, a highly regarded author, speaker, and advocate of innovative instruction and leadership in education will be the keynote speaker. He is the author of the book “The Innovator’s Mindset; Empower Learning, Unleash Talent, and Lead a Culture of Creativity.” He is a sought after speaker on the topic of innovative student learning and engagement and has worked with schools and organizations around the globe.
“This is much bigger than just us. We believe that students, the education system as a whole, and everyone will benefit if educators come together and start talking and sharing best practices. This is essential in education today. We are offering this summit for free to set an example of collaboration without costs, and to practice what we believe,” said Arcadia Unified School District Superintendent David Vannasdall.
Sessions will focus on three main areas: the Google Ecosystem (using Chromebooks, Google Apps for Education, and Third Party Applications), teaching in a 1:1 classroom, and other innovative teaching practices like Genius Hour, 3D Printing, Augmented Reality, Video Game Based Learned, and Makerspace.
The keynote address by George Couros will begin the day inside the state-of-the-art Arcadia Performing Arts Center, and all sessions will be held on the newly renovated Arcadia High School campus. Registration is required to attend, and will be limited to 600 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking, lunch, and WiFi will also be provided free of charge.
