The narrative of the “Pasadena Bead and Design Show” when it returns to the Hilton Pasadena will be design – the imagery of texture, color, and shape. It is said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – and here at “Pasadena Bead and Design” attendees step into a world of beads, jewelry, and clothing. The show features bead makers, jewelry and clothing designers, established artisans, merchants, and wholesale suppliers. Many items are offered here for the first time, by the artists themselves: one-of-a kind accessories, fine art jewelry, and gold and silver pieces. Imagine a fire opal hand cut in a perfectly woven radius of color and light or lapis and gold earrings hand-worked into rosettes suggestive of ancient Roman style. This has been the narrative of the show since its beginning – the materials, colors, and textures that we love. Other special categories include:

– Bead and jewelry making supplies from semi-precious beads to wholesale findings.

– Beads and buttons in unusual shapes such as paillettes, étincelles, and sequins.

– Hard-to-find coral, obsidian, bone, shell, and amber beads.

– Talismanic fibers and threads.

– Vintage and discovered objects, from fine pearls to art nouveau lace.

There are workshops offered daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., which cover a range of techniques in art clay, beadmaking, riveting, resin jewelry, kumihimo, talisman jewelry, metal and wire, and soldering. Spots fill quickly and early reservations are recommended. New workshops include soldered frames, electroforming on glass, multi bangle cuff, and raised texture bead embroidery. “Pasadena Bead and Design Show” is open to the public, admission is $10. Show will run today through Sunday, Jan. 14 to 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Pasadena, 168 S. Los Robles Ave. For more information, visit www.PasadenaBeadandDesignShow.com.
