The Pasadena Police Department, numerous local, state and federal law enforcement partners, and Tournament of Roses officials have been working together to enhance safety measures in preparation for the upcoming 2016 Rose Parade, the Rose Bowl Game and pre and post event activities. These efforts will enrich the safe, family friendly atmosphere for our 127th Rose Parade and 102nd Rose Bowl Game.
The Pasadena Police Department has been in daily communication with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and other law enforcement representatives ensuring timely intelligence sharing. There are no known threats to the City of Pasadena or any New Year’s event.
In order to enhance the City’s capabilities to prevent, respond to and mitigate any concerns, the public can expect to see increased uniform law enforcement personnel and several explosive detection canines units over several days and throughout the events. Not visible will be numerous undercover public safety personnel and an expansive camera recording system. Even with these enhanced security measures, the Pasadena Police Department still needs the public to remain vigilant in their observations and reporting of suspicious activity to law enforcement and/or parade and game representatives. Additionally, event attendants need to be mindful that with increased security measures, extra time will be required at security check points so plan to arrive early.
The Tournament of Roses is also taking an active role with enhanced public safety in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and through public education with “See Something, Say Something,” a national campaign to raise public awareness of indicators of terrorism and crime prevention through engaging the public in awareness and reporting of suspicious behavior to increase community safety. “The Pasadena Police Department and our law enforcement partners are making every effort to increase public safety. Our public also plays an important role in the effort to identify potential threats or unusual circumstances. Be assured, we are well prepared for the 2016 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game,” stated Police Chief Phillip L. Sanchez.
