The Arroyo Singers: Women’s Choral Group Performs Dec. 6
The Arroyo Singers, a women’s choral group, was founded in 1961 by Caltech faculty wives for their own pleasure and as a cultural contribution to the community. The group presents two formal concerts a year, one during the Christmas season and one during the Spring. Music is drawn from wide ranging repertoire including Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary, Folk, and Show Melodies and on occasion, original music composed for them. They also do special smaller programs by arrangement.
James Reitzell, director, obtained his Ph.D. in Musicology from Claremont Graduate University and was a full time high school music and choir class director at Holy Family high school in Glendale for many years.
Nonna Ayrapetova, accompanist was born and educated in Russia where she performed frequently as a pianist. After immigrating to the United States she completed her Masters Degree in Music at Cal State University and currently teaches, performs, and works as a professional accompanist for several schools and organizations in addition to The Arroyo Singers.
