The City of Pasadena has hired Long Beach Public Works director Ara Maloyan to fill the spot left vacant when Pasadena’s former director Siobhan Foster was terminated “without cause” last January.
Maloyan’s last day working for Long Beach will be Dec. 11, 2015, and City of Pasadena spokesperson confirmed that Maloyan will start work in Pasadena on Dec. 14.
He has been Public Works Director in Long Beach since 2013.
Maloyan was hired by Long Beach on July 23, 2012, as Deputy Director Public Works/City Engineer and was appointed Acting Director of Public Works on March 2, 2013. On Jan. 13, 2014, he was appointed Director of Public Works.
Previous to that, Maloyan was the City Engineer for the City of Beverly Hills, where he also held a variety of engineering positions for 23 years. Maloyan also worked for five years for the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, according to a City of Long Beach press release.
Pasadena’s Public Works department had operated for the past 10 months under the control of Assistant City Manager Julie Gutierrez.
