A mother was convicted Monday of three counts of first-degree murder for fatally stabbing her young daughters last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Carol Ann Coronado, 32, was found guilty by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ricardo Ocampo of fatally stabbing 2-year-old Sophia, 16-month-old Yazmine, and 2-month-old Xenia. Their bodies were discovered inside the family’s Torrance residence. The judge also found true the special circumstance of multiple murders. Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear is prosecuting the case. Coronado, who waived her right to a jury trial, returns to the Compton Branch court in Department J on Tuesday to begin the sanity phase of her trial in case BA425234. If she is found to have been sane when the crime occurred on May 20, 2014, she faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors were not seeking the death penalty. The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
