ANDRA DAY at AMOEBA – 11/13
Catch an afternoon of tunes at Amoeba, one of the LA’s most iconic record stores and local music retreats. Not only can you check out live vinyl pressings and vintage finds in-store, you’ll also be able to enjoy sounds from retro-soul songstress Andra Day.
The SoCal native has come a long way from years of singing in gospel choirs and nightclubs in San Diego. Since racking up millions of views on YouTube for her soulful covers, to the premiere of her debut album on Warner Brothers this summer, Andra Day is quickly becoming an international sensation with the perfect soundtracks to suit any mood.
Come this Friday the 13th, we just might be the ones in the front row sobbing to her ballads and shouting ‘amen.’ Yasss Andra, take us to church!
LION BABE at THE ROXY – 11/17
Shortly after meeting at a party, NYC cool kids Jillian Hervey and Lucas Goodman joined forces to form Lion Babe. In only 3 years, the duo is earning major buzz for freshly fusing pop, soul and R&B. Before-the-curve blogs and music-heads quickly caught interest, as well as several big-timers like producer Pharrell Williams (who is behind their recent single “Wonder Woman”).
Their pack of co-signers and collaborators has grown to include the likes of Mark Ronson, Childish Gambino as well as Disclosure, whom they’ve been touring with this Fall. With Goodman managing infectious beats and Hervey on vocal and performance duties, Lion Babe’s live shows are known to be sultry, fun and fierce – like the pair’s aesthetic.
Just as it’s hard to miss lead-babe’s ferocious golden mane and wild style, you wouldn’t want to miss this show at The Roxy on November 17th either. Let’s coordinate moves on the dance floor?
HIGH HØØPS at THE ECHO – 11/19
Deep and good. That’s pretty much all you need to know about Jordan Arts aka HIGH HØØPS’ music. A recent solo adventure, his sound is several chill-pills and years post-puberty evolved from his former electro-pop group Kids of 88 (also a goody, by the way). While digging through Soundcloud for new international faves in January, we landed upon HØØPS’ “Other Lover” collab with Sypcc and instantly fell in love with his dreamy and jazzy throwback feel-good tracks. Aromatherapy candle lit and pushing play, we put vibes out into the universe that the New Zealander would swing around states-side amongst the recent wave of breakout Kiwi artists like BROODS, NO WYLD, and Lorde.
Result? High score. We’re pretty excited that Red Bull caught on to make this happen, see you at the show on November 19th. Do come decked in your 90’s finest: bucket hat, Jodeci t-shirt, Fila kicks, Jordache jeans.
KAYTRANADA at ECHOPLEX – 11/22
Impressive productions and dope DJ sets, this genre-bending beatboy has been on an explosive rise the past couple of years. Born in Haiti as Louis Kevin Celestin, Kaytranada grew up in Montreal absorbing urban life, digging for music, and finding ways of making favorite Hip Hop and R&B cuts his own. Starting out as a DJ and learning music production as a teen, Kaytra’s musical output has been unrelenting ever since.
His beloved series of remixes, mixes, and originals have amassed millions of hits online, some of our favorites being “At All, “If” remix, and “Leave Me Alone.” It’s getting harder these days to find a festival or respected underground lineup that doesn’t include Kaytranada’s name, his releases are dominating dance floors worldwide. We get to catch him in our backyard on November 22. This time, on the east side at Echoplex.
Psssst! One more thing: Heads up that 30 Days in LA wraps up with a surprise show on November 30th. We nagged Red Bull for deets but they wouldn’t spill, only insight that it will be HUGE… and that’s no (red) bull. Ha!
he 2014 series closed with A$AP MOB and an unannounced appearance by Drake. If you’re reading this it… MAY NOT be too late to grab tickets for remaining events. Entry is exclusive to Red Bull Sound Select members but it’s FREE to join! Full lineup and tix here.
