Pasadena Police Blotters Oct. 26-31

October 26

On Oct. 26, a witness called the Pasadena Police Department (PPD) and reported a male adult was standing outside of the safety railing of the Colorado Street Bridge. Several officers and fire fighters responded to the incident. The bridge was closed while PPD Crisis Negotiation Team members talked with the subject. Tragically, after approximately seven hours of communication, the subject jumped from the bridge into the Arroyo. He was pronounced dead by the Pasadena Fire Department at 3:52 p.m. It is sad and troubling when an individual has become so despondent that he or she feels their only option is to end their life. These incidents can often have a significant emotional impact on the victim’s family, first responders, and the community. PPD Chaplain Chip Rittenhouse responded to the station to console the victim’s family. Please keep everyone associated this this incident in your prayers.

On Sept. 29, at about 1:36 p.m., PPD officers investigated a residential burglary in the 700 block of Canyon Wash Drive. Officers documented the crime on a police report and the case was assigned to Detective Wilkins. Based on preliminary investigation, it was determined the suspect entered the victim’s home through a window and removed miscellaneous jewelry. The suspect’s actions were captured on surveillance video, which was reviewed by Detective Wilkins. The suspect was subsequently positivity identified. On Oct. 28, the suspect surrendered at the Pasadena Police Department.

On Oct. 28, at about 12:45 p.m., PPD officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Paloma Street regarding a possible residential burglary in progress. A citizen reported that three suspects were in the process of burglarizing a residence and that the suspect’s vehicle was parked in front of the location. PPD officers arrived quickly and saw the suspects driving away from the location. A traffic stop was initiated; however, the driver failed to yield. PPD officers briefly pursued the suspect’s vehicle (about 90 seconds) when the driver lost control and crashed near Allen Avenue and Altadena Drive. All three suspects fled from the vehicle. Officers quickly contained the area and immediately arrested two suspects without incident. The third suspect was subsequently located by a Police Canine Team. All the suspects (Male Hispanics, Los Angeles residents) were taken to the police department and processed for burglary. The vehicle was also a reported stolen from Los Angeles. Two of the three suspect’s apprehended in this crime had been arrested recently for residential burglary in Pasadena.

October 29

On Oct. 29, at about 1:52 p.m., PPD officers responded to the 500 block of Pepper Street regarding a possible residential burglary in progress. A witness reported seeing two male Blacks knocking on the door of a neighbor who was not home. The witness also said that there was a suspicious vehicle circling the block. While driving to the call, PPD ground units requested air support and the Glendale Police Helicopter was immediately over the incident. The Glendale bird reported seeing subjects exit the suspicious vehicle, which was parked on Zanja Street. The subjects jumped a wall of a home on Pepper Street and began to pull on doors.

PPD officers arrived and contained the area; however, the subjects had already re-entered their vehicle and were driving away. The suspect driver lost control of his car and crashed into a parked vehicle near Lincoln Avenue and Claremont Street. Two suspects ran from the vehicle and were immediately arrested by police officers. A third suspect was arrested hiding inside a nearby dwelling. The remaining two suspects were located by a Police Canine Team and arrested. The suspects (four male Blacks, one female Black; adults) were transported to the police department and booked for several felony charges.

October 31

On Oct. 31, at about 2:00 a.m., a male Black adult walked into a local hospital with a stab wound to his leg. PPD officers were notified by the hospital staff and responded to investigate. The victim, however, was evasive when questioned about the wound or where the incident occurred. Based on the limited information gathered by officers, it appears the victim may have been attacked by his “cousin” after he was accused of having an affair with the suspect’s wife. Our investigation is ongoing.
