Dear Editor:

The passing of Kris Mariconda was to me how life can come to a sudden halt at any given moment … Like a thief in the night.

Kris’ life is well-documented – how she lived it to the fullest, finding ways to help others through various organizations (Monrovia Weekly 9-10-15).

Kris left a lasting impression on me with her involvement of a project I had been working on for several years.

The celebration of the life of Lt. Col. Allen Allensworth, whose death was surrounded in mixed opinions and heavy emotions due to the various factors surrounding his death.

Kris held a meeting a meeting in her home and team member Professor Susie Ling from Pasadena City College helped with a slide presentation about Lt. Col. Allen Allensworth’s role in history and Monrovia in particular.

The event was held on Sept 14., 2014, at Monrovia Historical Museum.

The heat in September is legendary – temperatures hovered around 105 that day.

Kris caught my eye as she helped prepare for the event, cleaning and dusting. Doing all the things to help make the event a success.

The local media, including Monrovia Weekly and the Pasadena Star News attended, just to name a few. Michael Antonovich, Mayor of L.A. County recognized Monrovia Historical Museum for its special tribute to Lt. Col. Allen Allensworth on Jan. 27, 2015.

But the help of Kris Mariconda will always stay in my mind.

Music filled the air. Young children sang. A Jacaranda tree was planted. Teddy bears filled the tables with hand-painted stones. Butterflies were released in the air. Family and friends shared memories.
