Monrovia Cub Scout Pack 66 Camp at Club Martin

Recently, Monrovia Cub Scout Pack 66 had an amazing adventure in the hills just south of the Cahuilla Reservation in Riverside County and East of Temecula off highway 371 at a little-known hidden treasure, Club Martin. As you exit the 15 south at the 79, you will travel east for 25 miles up the windy road to an altitude of almost 2,000 feet. The drive in is spectacular no matter the direction of your travel. Pull onto the last stretch of road (which is dirt and maintained). Visitors will see green grass, Indian tee-pees, a chuck wagon, two outdoor kitchens, a bunk house, and a lagoon pool with rock waterslide and island in the center.
Cub Scout Pack 66 had the pleasure of spending two nights and three days at Club Martin, which is not a typical camp, and the majority of the Cub Scouts have never camped or been to such an extraordinary resort/campground. The Cub Scouts as well as siblings and family enjoyed such amenities as sunset hiking, archery, tomahawk education, and BB gun shooting for the Cubs while the adults focused on higher-caliber shooting instructed by NRA certified instructors and a guest US Marine Drill Instructor and competitive shooter. One nine-year-old girl named Gabby V., the sister of Josef V., a Bear Cub was given the nickname of “Sniper” by the Drill Instructor as she showed great natural skill on the range.
The Cub Scouts had accommodations that are far from ordinary. Many of the Scouts loved to stay in the Bunk House, a stereotypical Old West building, with Dutch doors, bunk beds, and an eating area inside. Another favorite for the Cubs is the Covered Wagon with wheels and authentic canvas cover. While the Scouts are “camping” they can enjoy a private restroom and shower room.

After a long day of hiking, shooting and archery the Cub Scouts enjoyed a long afternoon in the Lagoon pool. Night time is a special experience at Club Martin for the Cubs, while there two birthdays were celebrated for the twins Josef and Gabby V., who turned nine. After the cake and sugar rush the kids gathered around the campfire ring to make s’mores, then adult leader Flor Escalante pulled out LED pocket rockets that are launched with rubber bands. The night lit up with yelling and laughter as the stars and pocket rockets filled the skies.
Once the sugar wore off the kids regrouped around the campfire, where Webelos Den Leader Ms. Jessica Mulheim-Ward presented each Cub Scout with their Totem animal necklace and read the meaning by campfire light; a mesmerizing moment for all the cubs.
Pack 66 Cub Scouts, Roman B., Adrian G., Degas P., Maxwell R., Elias M., Lucas G., Gavin G., Joshua S., Jacob S., Evan S., Ezekiel A., Josef V., Matthew P., Elan G., and Leaders Erick Bonilla, Mark Peters, Flor Escalante, Juan Atunez and Peter Vierheilig along with the families and siblings of these Cub Scouts want to thank Mr. Martin for what he has done for these families and Cub Scouts.
Monrovia Pack 66 is eternally grateful to the generosity of Mr. Michal Martin and his continued support of the Scouting movement. If it was not for generous heart like his these kids would not have the lifetime experiences and lasting memories of this past weekend.
