Los Angeles County Approves $15 Minimum Wage in Unincorporated Areas by 2020

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors gave its final approval Tuesday to raise the minimum wage for workers in unincorporated areas and for county employees, despite opposition from Supervisors Antonovich and Knabe.

The supervisors adopted the ordinance that will require employers who operate in unincorporated areas and the county to pay employees at least $15 per hour by 2020. Employers with fewer than 25 employees will have an additional year to reach $15 per hour.

The first increase will occur July 1 and will bring the minimum wage from $10 per hour to $10.50 per hour. The minimum wage will increase gradually until 2020.
