Dorothy’s Place: Had at It Twice

If you read last week’s column you may remember that I ended it with “Have at it and enjoy.” I was referring to the movie A Walk in the Woods. I was fortunate to have yet another have at it. You see, I enjoyed A Walk in the Woods and saw Patsy Cline.

No, Patsy Cline wasn’t in the woods. That was Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. Patsy Cline was in the Sierra Madre Playhouse and will be until Oct. 18, 2015. Of course it isn’t really Patsy, it is Cori Kidder portraying her and belting out her songs with perfection.

I think that to really enjoy and laugh at Woods you have to be a well-qualified senior. For Always…Patsy Cline you need to be a Cline fan or just a fan of great older type country music. I’m talking songs such as “Anytime,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “Lovesick Blues” and “Crazy.”

Every one of those songs I could have sung along with but, as a favor to the rest of the audience, I did not. I did do a lot of hand clapping, foot tapping and happy-tear shedding. I also thoroughly enjoyed Patsy’s sidekick Louise, portrayed by Nikki D’Amico, who moves the story along in a humorous and very physical way, along with a fantastic band. It was pure joy.

If those titles ring happy bells for you too, I strongly suggest you call the Sierra Madre Playhouse at (626) 355-4318.

My recent past has been filled with a lot of grief, heartache, and sadness but I’m a firm believer that if you just hold on tight and leave yourself open, good things will again happen. Good friends, A Walk in the Woods and seeing Always…Patsy Cline proved me right.

Again, I invite you to join me to ‘have at it and enjoy.’
