Arcadia Fire Department Report Sept. 20-26, 2015

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 20 – 26, 2015.

September 20

At 2:38 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street. Fire crews arrived to find an 84-year-old female suffering from shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, administration of respiratory medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

September 21

At 4:30 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a two-year-old child who had experienced a febrile seizure. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures, including cardiac monitoring and establishing venous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

September 22

At 00:14 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, and Rescue Battalion 105 responded to a water flow alarm in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a sprinkler head activation in the freezer area of a restaurant. The fire sprinkler system was shut off and a water vacuum was used to remove the water from the floor. A replacement fire sprinkler head was unavailable so the facility posted a fire watch until a service repair person could respond in the morning.

September 23

At 10:08 a.m., Truck 105 was dispatched as part of a fourth alarm assignment to a building fire in the city of Monterey Park. Truck 105 personnel arrived on scene and were assigned as the Rapid Intervention Company. While on the assignment, Truck 105 personnel established a tool cache, assisted the Operations Section Chief in tracking resources, and secured the collapse zone. September 24

At 1:22 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Haven Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 48-year-old male sitting unclothed in the driveway. Further investigation determined the patient had been taking methamphetamine and was experiencing a psychotic episode. Paramedics kept the patient calm and transported him to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

September 25

At 6:48 p.m., Engine 107 responded to a public assist in the 1000 block of Heritage Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male occupant stranded at the end of his driveway due to his motorized wheelchair running out of power. Fire personnel retrieved a standard wheelchair from inside the resident’s home, transferred him from the motorized wheelchair and transported him back inside his home. Fire personnel then set the motorized wheelchair to charge and gave the occupant a drink. The occupant had no medical or other needs.

September 26
At 1:38 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Paramedic Engine 102 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 54-year-old female suffering from nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.
