FRANKMUSIK

Vincent Turner aka Frankmusik has an eloquent way of describing his selections for the latest LA CANVAS Music Exclusive, as you’ll troll through below. His energy, contagious. His knowledge on music production, inspiring. When we heard he started out as a beatboxer in the early 2000’s—yeah, that mug up there—to garnering chart topping electro-pop albums in both the US and UK, and the birth of Frankmusik in 2007, we knew that notable moments would tug at our inquisitive nature and reach out to have him housed on our digital space.

From performing alongside Keane and Pet Shop Boys to touring the US extensively with Far East Movement (yeah, it’s his vocals on their hit songs “Fighting For Air” and “Rocketeer”), and producing records for Ellie Goulding, Erasure, and Ru Paul, his busy body doesn’t let up; crawling out of his London-based studio with his third independent album “For You” dropping this October ’15 was the ultimate opportunity to hone in on his current inspirations, old and new. Tip: we hear that his new music culminates Vincent’s writing, singing and unique production skills, making room for his sexiest, warmest and most liberated album to date. Now for that list:

BASEMENT JAXX – NEVER SAY NEVER

Basement Jaxx “Remedy” was one of the first albums I ever purchased and their unique music for sure inspired me to start making my own. I love all of their albums and this tune came as a nice surprise. It have all the throw back elements of 90’s electronica and house music with a clean fresh vocal sitting in the middle. Their blend of edgy dance pop always impresses me. This song has a hilarious video to go along with it so I highly recommend checking it out. These guys are from South London too which is was nice for me as a teenage aspiring bedroom producer. They have amazing live shows full of color, vigor, top tier talent and virtuosity.

M83 – STEVE MCQUEEN

M83 is at its best with Steve McQueen. It has everything I could want from a record. A serious build of tension through the beginning to git the ultimate pay off of power chord guitars and shiny vocals floating around in a track that sounds like it was recorded in a cathedral. This song is perfect for a summer drive cruising down PCH with the top down thrashing air guitar when the cops aren’t looking.

ANAMANAGUCHI “PROM NIGHT” (LINDSAY LOWEND REMIX)

This track is just so sexy and fun. I have been a fan of Lindsay Lowend for a couple of years now. The guy is super talented. He makes super funky Hip Hop / R&B records but also makes epic film compositions too. This track has all the chip tune sounds I love and pure summer vibe chords all over it.

EVIL_NEEDLE – LULLABY

Evil_Needle kills the slow jams so bad! I struggled to pick one track from his page. I love all the chords and tight drums. Lullaby is just a perfect beach track. Close your eyes and relax as the song kisses your ears.

JON HOPKINS – OPEN EYE SIGNAL

I chose this track because I’m a huge fan of Jon Hopkins and his original ‘Open Eye Signal’ from 2013. This remix adds a whole new energy to the original track that I love. When the sun goes down and the evenings are warm, you have to have that track that gets you ready for the evenings events. This is that song for me.

*And just like that, you can listen to his album preview that’s available for pre-order on iTunes this Friday, September 18th, below. Album drop slated for October 9th.
