Bright Night flyer

By Jonathan Tsou

On Sept. 19th, 2015, the Arcadia Educational Foundation will be hosting the first annual Bright Night Fundraising Gala. The Arcadia Educational Foundation, also known as AEF, is a nonprofit organization that privately provides funding for Arcadia Unified School District Schools. The foundation runs the annual summer school program and offers thousands of dollars in teacher grants. Just last year, AEF provided schools with Chromebooks.

Lori Phillip, the Arcadia Unified School Board President, will be hosting the 21 and older “Bright Night” event. The event, located on 250 Hacienda Drive, is designed to show the accomplishments of Arcadia students. It will also bring together the community in order to form a high-quality education in our local district. There will also be special performances by the Arcadia High School music club, the Arcadia High School famed World Drum Line, the Arcadia High School pep squad, and members of the Arcadia Speech and Debate team.

About two hundred guests will be in attendance at the event. There will be AUSD staff members, City Council Members, AUSD School Board Members, AUSD parents, Arcadia residents and Arcadia Superintendent David Vannasdall.

Guests will be welcomed with apple cider or Bellini cocktail. The appetizer salad is the famous kale “Diane Salad” and zucchini bread. Afterward, guests will be treated to an al fresco barbecue dinner, catered by Dearmore BBQ. For dessert, individuals will receive a mouthwatering German chocolate cake.

Although eating with Arcadia Superintendent David Vansell and AUSD school principals is great, there will also be live auction and drawings. Bidders have a chance to feast with firefighters, to fly along with Arcadia police, to sit in the prime spots at the Rose Parade, and many other prizes. These prizes are sponsored by AEF Trustees, Warner Bros. Studios, Bank of America, and many more. For more information regarding prizes go to AEF’s website.

All proceeds from the Bright Light event will go to Arcadia Unified School District where it will allow AUSD to retain many staff positions for each school year. It too will be used to fill a gap that the California funding lacks, providing enhanced educational programs and resources. For those who want to donate but are unable to attend AEF Bright Night, go to Arcadia Educational Foundation’s donation website.
