Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report
For the period of Sunday, Sept. 6th, through Saturday, Sept. 12th, the Police Department responded to 1,020 calls for service of which 126 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
September 6
Just before 11:42 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Peck Road and Clark Street for having expired registration. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 31-year-old male from the City of Bell had never been issued a license. He was cited and released in the field.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., an officer responded to the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Morlan Place regarding an injury traffic collision. An investigation revealed Party-1 collided into Party-2 while trying to change lanes. Party-2 then struck Party-3. Party-3 collided with the curb and came to rest by striking a tree. Party-1 and Party-3 refused medical attention.
September 7
At about 6:09 a.m., an officer responded to LA Fitness, 1325 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a grand theft report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect cut the cable lock and stole the victim’s bicycle from the north side of the business. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
At approximately 12:11 p.m., an officer responded to the Santa Anita Inn, 130 West Huntington Drive, regarding a stolen vehicle report. The victim reported that his acquaintance, a 16-year-old female from Compton, took his vehicle without his permission. The vehicle was located on Sept. 9th in Los Angeles. The suspect is outstanding at the time of this report.
September 8
Around 12:36 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of West Duarte Road regarding a prowler in the area. The officer discovered a male suspect had been seen peeking through a window at a female victim. An area check did not locate the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35-years-old, 5’10”, 170 pounds, with a short, buzz-cut style hair and dark clothing.
Just after 10:08 a.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Temple City Boulevard and Duarte Road for crossing over double yellow lines. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 47-year-old male from Pico Rivera was driving with a suspended license, operating a vehicle without the required ignition interlock device, and was uninsured. He was cited and released in the field. The vehicle was towed and stored.
September 9
Shortly after 11:35 a.m., an officer responded to StorAmerica Self Storage, 5630 Peck Road, regarding a burglary report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unit through ventilation openings near the ceiling and stole three samurai swords. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
At about 2:55 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 900 block of North First Avenue regarding an attempted grand theft report. The officer determined the suspect called the victim claiming to be his grandson’s attorney seeking $1,330 in unpaid fees. The victim transferred the money but successfully cancelled the payment once he discovered the story was false. The investigation is ongoing.
September 10
At approximately 8:38 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of East Longden Avenue regarding a theft report. The victim stated an unidentified suspect fraudulently wrote and cashed two checks amounting to $8,200. The investigation is ongoing.
Around 6:36 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of East Live Oak Avenue regarding a theft that had just occurred. Officers located a subject matching the suspect description. Upon contacting the subject, the officer detected signs of drug use. Through a series of tests, the officer determined the subject was under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of the suspect revealed methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe. The 27-year-old male from Whittier was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
September 11
At about 7:42 a.m., an officer responded to the Embassy Suites, 211 East Huntington Drive, regarding an auto burglary report. The victim reported an unknown suspect tampered with the locking mechanism of their vehicle and stole their third row seat and two suitcases sometime during the previous night. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
Just after 4:54 p.m., an officer responded to a traffic collision in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Santa Anita Avenue. Upon contacting one of the drivers, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. A series of tests determined the 24-year-old male from San Gabriel was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
September 12
Just after 12:15 a.m., an officer responded to Ralphs, 1101 West Huntington Drive, regarding a battery report. When the manager denied a transaction per the store’s policy, the suspect became enraged, and threw a gift card at the manager’s face. As the suspect exited the store, a witness attempted to stop the suspect resulting in the suspect pushing the witness out of the way. The suspect entered the driver seat of a black, Mercedes Benz SUV with covered licenses plates. The investigation is ongoing.
At approximately 4:28 p.m., officers responded to JC Penney at the Westfield Shopping Town, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a robbery report. An investigation revealed the suspect pulled a knife on the loss prevention specialists as he tried to flee with nearly $400 worth of women’s athletic shoes. Loss Prevention Specialists obtained the suspect’s license plate and the suspect arrived at his residence to the awaiting officers. The 43-year-old male from El Monte was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
