According to the United States Department of Labor, Labor Day is a “Yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.” But more importantly it means a 3-day weekend, AKA a whole extra day to play. Or sleep. And, luckily for you, one of our favorite things to do here at LA CANVAS is plotting the weekend(s). Below is a list of some great LDW events, but if your idea of a perfectly extra long weekend is Netflix n’ chillin’ or catching up on some R&R while being a SoCal beach bum, then you may like our Beach & Brunch list. The Hollywood Bowl will be screening a Steven Spielberg’s E.T. on their massive HD screen, accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic performing the Academy Award-winning score of the film.

It seems as though any given week in LA has its own food and wine festival, but when the LA Times is curating it, you know its gonna be good. The Taste is composed of 5 food-centric events held Friday through Sunday, choose between “Opening Night”, “Feild to Fork”, “Dinner with a Twist”, “Sunday Brunch and BBQ”, and “Flavors of L.A.” (or go big and attend them all).

School is just about to begin (or already has) so reward your kids (and yourself) with a day of family fun, before homework becomes everyone’s #1. Dive into deep fried everything such as this year’s new addition deep-fried guacamole with ranch dressing, and make sure to arrive hungry because there will be 1,200 fair food items to try. But it’s not all just food, the LA County fair is home to many attractions including art, nightly concerts, carnival rides, and games!

Fiesta Hermosa is the “largest arts & crafts fair in Southern California” held annually on Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekends since 1972. Fiesta Hermosa displays over 300 artists from various mediums such as painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelers, sculptors, and handcrafters. In addition to the art, Fiesta Hermosa has two musical stages, a food court, beer and wine garden and a kiddie carnival.
