The new season at Sierra Madre Playhouse will expand its ongoing mission of investigating the American Experience.

Playhouse Artistic Director Christian Lebano elaborated, “Every play in the season was written by American playwrights. We’re presenting a Los Angeles Premiere, two musicals, revisiting a neglected but once-again-timely play, doing our first thriller in a long time, and celebrating three of the greatest American stories ever told. We want to offer something for everyone in the community- so that everyone in Sierra Madre and the surrounding cities can claim the Playhouse as their own. I’ve gotten really talented artists to sign on with us. Audiences are in for a wonderful ride.”

Always … Patsy Cline on July 31- September 12, 2015: Written by Ted Swindley. Directed by Robert Marra. Musical direction by Sean Paxton. The legendary Patsy Cline and her most devoted fan Louise Seger are depicted in a retrospective of their friendship and of Patsy’s career. Patsy sings 27 of her hits backed by a live five-piece band. A delightful musical for the whole family.

Deathtrap on October 2- November 8, 2015: Written by Ira Levin. Directed by Christian Lebano. Sometimes a hit play is worth killing for. One of the best thrillers ever written – full of twists and turns. Suitable for general audiences.

A Christmas Memory on November 27- December 27, 2015: L.A. Premiere of a musical based on the novella by Truman Capote. Book by Duane Poole. Music by Larry Grossman. Lyrics by Carol Hall. Directed by Alison Eliel Kalmus. The classic story adapted into a holiday treat about the true meaning of Christmas and the bonds of friendship.

Other People’s Money on January 8- February 13, 2016: Written by Jerry Sterner. Directed by Kiff Scholl. The go-go ‘80s changed capitalism forever, and this wonderfully funny and profane play shows us how we’ve gotten to the financial world we live in now. For mature audiences.

The Spring Repertory

Charlotte’s Web on March 4- April 8, 2016: 3rd annual Field Trip Series play performing at Student and Saturday matinees. Adapted by James Robinette from the book by E.B. White. The classic story of the friendship between Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider. Suitable for children and their families.

Of Mice and Men on March 11- April 16, 2016: Written by John Steinbeck. Directed by Barbara Schofield. The powerful story of the friendship between George and Lenny set on the California Central Coast during the Great Depression. Suggested for audiences 12 to Adult.

The Glass Menagerie on May 16- June 18, 2016: Written by Tennessee Williams. Directed by Christian Lebano. One of the great American plays, and the one that established Williams as a playwright of the first magnitude. A semi-autobiographical look at a troubled family, it is a play of longing, regret, and nostalgia filled with some of the most beautiful writing of Williams’ career. Suitable for general audiences, but material may be too advanced for very young children.
