Arcadia Police Department Blotter – July 5-11 2015

For the period of Sunday, July 5th, through Saturday, July 11th, the Police Department responded to 949 calls for service of which 107 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

July 5

Just before 1 p.m., an officer responded to 24 Hour Fitness, 125 North First Avenue, regarding a vehicle burglary report. Sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on this date, an unknown suspect broke the rear window of the victim’s vehicle and stole her purse. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

At approximately 7:07 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of La Sierra Avenue and Santa Anita Avenue for having tinted windows. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 34-year-old male from Los Angeles had never been issued a license. He was cited and released in the field. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

July 6

At about 3:09 p.m., an officer responded to Subway, 411 East Huntington Drive, regarding a male subject scaring customers. The 24-year-old male from Monrovia exhibited signs of drug use and additional officers arrived to offer assistance. A series of tests suggested he was under the influence of a controlled substance and the officers placed him under arrest. He became combative and attempted to choke one of the officers. Two officers sustained injuries while attempting to restrain the suspect. The suspect was ultimately arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. Neither officer sought medical attention.

At approximately 4:27 p.m., an officer responded to the front counter of the Arcadia Police Department regarding a fraud report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect stole the victim’s new credit card from her front porch and charged more than $500 in various purchases. The investigation is ongoing.

July 7

Around 2:33 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 700 block of West Huntington Drive for having colored headlights. During a consensual search of the vehicle, the officer located a glass smoking pipe, a hypodermic needle, and several utensils used to smoke methamphetamine. Due to medical concerns, the 50-year-old male from Monrovia was cited and released in the field.

Just after 11:11 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Diamond Street for having expired registration. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 44-year-old male from Altadena knowingly placed fraudulent tags on his vehicle and was also driving with an expired license. He was cited and released in the field.

July 8

Shortly after 9:17 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue regarding a hit and run collision. Witnesses stated a 2009-2010 silver Mercedes C-class collided with a parked car and fled the scene. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

At about 9:43 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive, regarding a vehicle burglary report. An investigation revealed an unknown suspect broke the driver’s side window and stole the victim’s wallet from the center console. The suspect then used the victim’s credit card at a nearby Target. The investigation is ongoing.

July 9

At approximately 12:15 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 2300 block of South Second Avenue regarding a fraud report. The victim stated an unknown suspect opened a credit card in her name and charged a total of $15,575. The victim does not know how the suspect obtained her personal information. The investigation is ongoing.

Around 9:31 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s at the Westfield Shopping Town, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a petty theft report. Surveillance footage revealed the 21-year-old female from San Luis Obispo concealed $238 worth of merchandise before exiting the store, failing to make payment. Upon contacting the suspect, the loss prevention specialist located new and used syringes on the suspect, three filled with heroin. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

July 10

At about 11:17 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 000 block of Bonita Street regarding a package theft report. The victim stated an unknown suspect stole three packages from her porch sometime between July 2nd and July 5th. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Just after 4:39 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the 11200 block of Lynrose Street for having expired registration. Upon contacting the driver, the officer discovered the 34-year-old male from Baldwin Park had never been issued a license. He was cited and released in the field. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

July 11

Just after 12:17 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 700 block of Southview Road regarding a possible battery in progress involving a gun. An investigation revealed two adult siblings were arguing when the 40-year-old female from Arcadia assaulted her brother with a knife, causing lacerations to his face. The victim declined medical attention. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

At approximately 11:49 p.m., an officer responded to the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Las Tunas Drive regarding a traffic accident involving a vehicle colliding with the center divider. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath. A series of tests confirmed the 20-year-old female from Los Angeles had been driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
