Cal Phil Presents Rogers & Hammerstein With Anthony Fedorov and Jennifer Paz
California Philharmonic audiences are in for an extra special treat when they attend the spectacular second concert of the season “Rogers, Hammerstein & More” on Saturday July 11 at Santa Anita Race Track and Sunday July 12 during a matinee performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Not only will they be enchanted and moved by a world-class orchestra under the direction of esteemed Maestro Victor Vener, but they will also feel first-hand the deep love that special guests Anthony Fedorov and Jennifer Paz have for performing – and for each other.
The talented duo will be performing songs from South Pacific, Cinderella, and The Sound of Music as well as some other surprises.
“This will be a couple of ‘firsts’ for me,” said Fedorov, who captured the hearts of millions years ago with his voice and his story as a finalist on the 4th season of American Idol. “It’s the first time I will be performing with the California Philharmonic and the first time ever doing a concert like this with Jen! I’m so excited! I love the rush of singing with a live orchestra.”
Jennifer, a Filipina Broadway sensation whose silver-toned voice mesmerized Cal Phil audiences last year, is equally excited to return to the stage this summer with her fiancé, marking their Cal Phil duo debut.
“I had such a blast performing last year with Maestro Victor Vener and the orchestra! It was my first time performing with Cal Phil and I especially enjoyed how much playful banter Victor had with his audiences! It’s truly something special,” said Jennifer, who is currently a soloist with Boublil/Schonberg’s “Do You Hear the People Sing” concert tour and has starred on stage in such masterpieces as Les Misérables’ 10th Anniversary on Broadway and the national tour of Miss Saigon.
As for this year, Jennifer is looking forward to re-visiting some of Rogers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber music, noting that she has played Cinderella and Mary Magdalene in regional productions.
And, she continued, “Since I’ve devoted these recent years to being with our two-year-old son, Julian, it’ll be nice that mommy gets to dress up for the night and sing some gorgeous music while sharing the stage with my husband! Getting to perform together with Cal Phil is like the best date night ever for us!”
In March of 2011 while on tour with Broadway Asia performing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat they were caught in the tragic earthquake-tsunami in Japan. It was after that experience that they realized how short and fragile life is, and what they were feeling for each other was not to be ignored. A year later they were expecting and engaged, and are now married and parents.
Additional concerts on this season’s playbill include “Phantom/Les Miz” on Saturday July 25 and Sunday August 2; “Lights, Camera, Action!” Saturday August 8 and Sunday August 9; and “Postcards From Abroad,” which concludes the season on Saturday August 22 and Sunday August 23.
The California Philharmonic is supported by the California Philharmonic Society, a non-profit community benefit organization whose main emphasis at this time is to support the California Philharmonic.
