Hundreds of people ventured to First Avenue in Arcadia Friday night for the inaugural “Street Fair and Patriotic Festival” which, up until last week, was in Monrovia. Monrovia now has a different vendor for its street fair and farmers’ market and they will continue the long tradition on Myrtle Avenue.

While the transition seemed seamless to the naked eye, there was some scuttlebutt about vendors being “traitors”; i.e. leaving one city to come to Arcadia.

The two markets, while competing for some of the same clients, will serve a much larger audience now and hopefully both will flourish in the coming weeks and years.

There was a very good selection of fruits and vegetables as well as fresh-cut flowers at the inaugural Arcadia street fair filling the warm summer evening air with a delicious cross between nectarines and lemons which tantalized the taste buds to try some of the many samples offered.

Organic honey was another favorite along with homemade breads and cakes.

The Arcadia festival will run every Friday on First Ave. between Santa Clara and Huntington Drive.
