San Gabriel Hosting Public Works Day May 21

The Public Works Department will host an open house on Thursday, May 21, to celebrate National Public Works Week and recognize the many crews that make San Gabriel residents’ lives better every single day.

The event will feature demonstrations by public works crews of the equipment and techniques they use on a daily basis to maintain the city’s parks, streets, sidewalks, trees, signals, sewers and storm drains. Other utility crews that serve the San Gabriel community will also be on hand, including Athens Services, Alameda Corridor-East (ACE), Southern California Edison and the San Gabriel County Water District.

The open house is part of a week-long celebration of National Public Works Week May 18-22. This year’s theme, “Community Begins Here,” highlights the essential nature of public works services to everyday quality of life in the community.

In addition to the open house on Thursday, the city will highlight the Public Works Department throughout the week with posts on social media, including a virtual “ride along” with public works crews and a special video celebrating the department.

Public Works Day will be held on Thursday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vincent Lugo Park, at the corner of Wells and Ramona Streets.
